The Leers are from the Mount originally but now reside in the big smoke, Auckland. They are a bloody group and great lads as well. They’re coming to play a gig down at Major Toms bar in the Mount this Sat with Glass Owls as part of a short tour. It’ll be a fun night!

Here’s a few questions and answers with Matt from the Leers.

THANKS: What do you do in the band and tell us what you like to do when you are not playing music and working?

I sing lead vocals and play a bit of guitar. In my spare time I like to write poetry and draw on my bedroom wall. Don’t judge me.

THANKS: So you guys are from the Mount but all residing in Auckland now? Are you all studying, working?

I work for Havaianas. James studies. Jacob works for Mercedes and Jack runs a label called Like Mind which alters pre-loved clothing.

THANKS: What are your favourite spots in Mt Maunganui, eating, shopping, drinking?

Cafe 88 does a mean Jamaican Burger, Major Toms does the best dark ale on the planet (it’s called the Cheeky Darkie), hitting the island for a boog on a hot summers day and having a beer with my Dad in the backyard.

THANKS: What’s the plans for the next few months with the Leers?

We are gonna release our second Ep, finish writing our album and look at recording some singles. We are also looking at completing a South Island tour and playing overseas.

If you could pick any 3 artists for a concert (dead or alive) who would you have?

Bombay Bicycle Club, Tame Impala, Mozart
